THE WORD OF THE WEEK
TITLE: “Passing the Torch” 7/01/2019
“Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” Deuteronomy 31:6
In this pericope, we find Moses in his final days of his life around 120 yrs old. He was 80 yrs old when God called him to lead His people to the Land of Promise. Moses has challenged the people of God to choose life or death, to obey God and therefore continue to experience His blessings. God does not force himself on anyone. He lets us decide to follow Him or reject Him.
Moses prepares the people for his departure by writing down all the laws and commandments of God in a permanent form and teaching them a special song. Moses also commissioned Joshua as the new anointed leader. Moses gathered the people together to read the Laws to the whole assembly, including the children. Now Joshua was the man God had chosen to further lead the army of the people to conquer the Promised land of Canaan. Moses was familiar with Joshua’s ability as were the people for he was a servant to Moses for most of Moses 40 year-tenure. Moses exhorted Joshua and assured him that God would go before His people, help conquer the land and destroy the evil they would come up against like destroying the godless nations in Canaan (Deut 31:3). Its good to know that the same God who marched ahead of God’s people then still helps His people toda! (Heb 13:5).
We at Dr Dowe Clinic exhort you to continue to walk out your Faith. Moses, although not perfect (Num 20:1-13), served as a Faithful leader. Even at the age of 120 yrs old, Moses was physically fit (Deut 34:7). More importantly, Moses was spiritually-fit. For to be spiritually-minded is life and peace (Rom 8:6). Have a Moses and Joshua-like anointing of being rich in the spirit of the Lord: worthy of Passing the Torch.
“I will boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” Heb 13:6
